If you have already made several Diamond Paintings, this is probably familiar to you, when inspecting the bags with stones, they seem to contain such illogical colors. They don't match the colors in the picture at all, do they? Now is this an error?
This can make you super insecure! Because what do you do now? Contact the seller? In most cases this is not necessary and is just right. But how is that possible? At Stone by Stone Diamond Painting we will explain how this is possible.
An image as you see it on your screen is made up of square blocks, which we call pixels. Those pixels can all have a color. The number of bits also play a role on a screen, but we will not go into that now. For the sake of simplicity, we therefore assume that a pixel can contain 1 of the 16,777,216 colors. Let's start using the following image for our explanation:
At first glance, this image does not seem to contain a lot of colors, does it? At least black, a kind of green, some pink and a little white… or not? Let's zoom in on the area marked with the blue box.
If we zoom in on that, we see the following:
Do you see them too? The pixels we just talked about! And now look…. The black surface is not at all 1 black surface of the same color! It consists of a lot of colors, even a kind of purple. These different color shades give the image contrast, depth. Keep in mind that we are talking about an image with over 16.7 million colors. If we were to convert this to a Diamond Painting, it would mean that we would have to have 16.7 million different colored stones. Can you see yourself sitting with all your sorting trays? Let's not do that! Moreover, we only have 447 DMC colors at our disposal. Let's reduce this image to 20 colors. Pay particular attention to what happens to the “black” area
What is that? That's not black, it's blue! And yet, when we zoom out, it appears black. This is also the case with a Diamond Painting, if you are on top of it (zoomed in) to make it, it seems very strange. But that's not what a Diamond Painting is ultimately meant for. Just like a painting, you view it from a distance (zoomed out) and you see the image with colors and depth as it is intended. Now the size of the Diamond Painting also plays a very important role in the beautiful display, but we will not go into that in this article.
Let's move on to the end result of your Diamond Painting, why you don't see the same colors as on the picture you may now understand much better. Translating a picture with a maximum of 16.7 million colors into a Diamond Painting with, for example, 20 colors is quite an art. The more colors the more striking the Diamond Painting will be.
You probably understand the principle now, why don't we take a look at this piece with 447 colors just for fun? (No, we understand that as a beginner you don't sit on the table with all those different jars).
As you can see, this one goes a little more towards the original.
